Individualized and Therapeutic Yoga

Traditionally yoga was transmitted from teacher to student in a one-on-one setting.  The changing needs and goals of the individual are therefore taken into account as personalized practices are designed to fit into individual’s current lifestyle to enhance their health, outlook and stage in life.  Additionally, practice may be geared towards one recovering from injury, illness or simply an individual desiring to live in a more connected way.  Students practice at home on their own and continue to receive guidance during sessions where practices may be updated.  Students wishing to deepen their knowledge of yogic texts, chanting and application will have the opportunity to practice steadily to aid in their endeavors.

Group Yoga Classes

A breath-centered practice in the lineage of Krishnamacharya/T.K.V Desikachar which may include a combination of the following: mindful movement, breathing techniques, sound, ancient vedic chants or sutras, and meditation. All levels are welcome as the practice is tailored to suit the needs of the individual.

Pre-natal

Appropriate for all moms-to-be whether it is her first or subsequent baby.  Throughout pregnancy there are many physiological changes and discomforts that can be eased or alleviated through movement and breath work.  Postures are carefully selected to aid in optimal fetal positioning, pelvic floor strength, and to elicit the relaxation response.  Psychologically women experience life-altering changes to lifestyle and priorities with the birth of their children.  Classes are themed and sequenced taking this into account while including pain coping techniques, vocalization and birthing postures.  No previous yoga experience required.

Post-natal

These classes honor a mother’s journey from pre to a postnatal transformation. Classes take place in a nurturing and supportive environment that contributes to the well-being of mother.  Regaining strength and energy through movement and breath work, tools to relieve stress of caring for an infant when lacking sleep.  Classes are focused on aiding positive postural habits, and alleviating common structural complaints voiced by mothers.  Safe core work…keeping in mind mom is still healing for many months post delivery.

Mommy & Me Yoga

Sangha in Sanskrit means community or company.  Meeting other new mothers is an ideal way to share information and cultivate lasting friendships during this transformational time.  These sessions couple the physical aspect of yoga while bringing awareness to balancing motherhood (bonding and taking care of needs of baby) in a fun, open environment.  Interactive postures foster her connection with her child and movements for mother to focus on her healing.  For mothers with infants up to crawling.
